In April I was contacted by Janina Ultra White and invited to take part in a challenge ready for National Smile Month which officially starts today. From 15th May – 15th June 2017 the Oral Health Foundation is aiming to help everyone improve their oral health. When Janina asked me if I would like to try some of their teeth whitening products it was an opportunity I grabbed with both hands. After all who doesn’t want whiter teeth? As it happens I’ve just managed to wean myself off of coffee after about 4 years of drinking ridiculous amounts, so this is a challenge that couldn’t have come at a better time! On that note, let’s find out what happened and if Janina Ultra White products actually work…. JANINA ULTRA WHITE BLOG REVIEWJANINA ULTRA WHITE REVIEWJANINA ULTRA WHITE MAXIWHITE TEETH WHITENING On day 1 of the challenge I decided to try the Janina Ultra White Maxiwhite Professional Teeth Whitening Pre-filled Trays. These are designed to whiten your teeth by up to 7 shades over 5 days. Apparently they’re perfect for anyone that has surface staining such as from nicotine, red wine, tea and of course coffee just like myself. I was pleased to discover that there’s no harsh ingredients in the product and that they are designed to be quick and easy to use. Intrigued, I quickly peeled back the foil and applied the trays to my upper and lower teeth as shown in the pic below.

Once the trays were in place I pressed them a little just to ensure that the gel had completely covered my teeth, and continued with my day. I knew I needed to wear them for 35 minutes so after taking the above pic for this post I carried on working on my blog. The first thing I noticed was that the trays remind me of my retainers, only they’re nowhere near as tight. In fact, they’re not tight at all but they still stay nicely in place.

Call me strange, but I like the feeling of these when I’m wearing them. They’re really comfortable and I find myself gently biting them with my teeth. I do exactly the same with my retainers. I think it’s a comfort thing! Kinda odd I know. I also like the way the product itself tastes. Not that I was going out of my way to try it or anything, but you can’t avoid the scent of the minty fresh paste.

Janina Ultra White are right when they say these trays are really easy to use because it’s true. I was barely aware they were there and before I knew it, it was time to take them off. So I removed them, gave my mouth a rinse and had a look at the results. Wow. This was only day 1 and already I could see a massive difference. I got kinda excited and e-mailed Janina straight away. I wasn’t expecting to see results so soon. JANINA ULTRA WHITE TOOTHPASTE BLOG REVIEW Still continuing with day 1 of this challenge, in the evening I switched to the Janina Ultra White Activated Charcoal Whitening Toothpaste. I decided to use this alongside the trays just to make sure I gave the teeth whitening challenge a really good go. This product was to be used twice daily in place of my regular toothpaste and preferably for about 3 minutes each time.

I’m obsessed with everything charcoal at the mo. Just knowing that this toothpaste has charcoal in it made me feel all happy inside. It also contains papain from papaya. This is an ingredient I’ve gone on and on about in the past (regular readers will know!). It’s just so damn good at what it does (dissolving just in case you’re wondering) and I honestly can’t rave about it enough. But I won’t go on, as some readers will be like ‘oh no, not this again!’. The point is, this toothpaste is full of natural enzymes including bromelaine from pineapple so it’s probably going to be pretty good at what it does, but won’t be too abrasive on my teeth.

The Activated Charcoal Whitening Toothpaste has many different uses including whitening, purifying the breath, removing stains, reducing sensitivity and controlling tartar and plaque. It also has optimum fluoride levels, perfect for preventing decay. The taste is minty and comes from the mentha arvensis leaf I believe. Instantly I decided that I like this product but there was one thing I must admit I didn’t do. Janina Ultra White advise that any excess of this toothpaste should be spat out but that you should not rinse your mouth. This is to give the toothpaste it’s maximum chance of achieving results as the product will continue to work. I couldn’t quite bring myself to do it. What can I say? After cleaning my teeth I like to rinse my mouth!

Following day 1 my routine stayed the same for 4 days:

In the morning:

I cleaned my teeth with the Janina Ultra White Activated Charcoal Toothpaste for 3 mins.

I then applied the Janina Ultra White Maxiwhite Trays for 35 mins.

In the evening:

I cleaned my teeth with the Janina Ultra White Activated Charcoal Toothpaste for 3 mins again.

The Results

Top: The before pic on day 1.

Bottom: The after pic on day 6.

Both were taken on my DSLR in front of the same window with no artificial lighting.

I think the pictures speak for themselves. Janina Ultra White has completely transformed my smile, effortlessly whitening my teeth in 5 days. I’m so impressed and happy with the results. I must admit, I feel a bit embarrassed of the before pic as my teeth look so dull and almost yellow in a way. With that in mind, I’m going to continue to use the charcoal toothpaste everyday. I don’t want my teeth to look like that ever again. I’m also going to purchase some more Maxiwhite trays.  These can be used as an intensive treatment (like in this challenge) or as a one off for maintenance. The products are so easy to use that I have no excuse for going back to my old ways. I’m saying goodbye to my regular toothpaste and hello to having much whiter teeth!
